Starkey Hearing Aids: Leading the Way in AI Technology

Seems like everyone is talking about artificial intelligence these days.

Like other industries, the hearing care industry and hearing aid technology are being impacted by AI.

The only major all-American hearing aid manufacturer, Starkey is setting the standard when it comes to integrating AI innovations in hearing aid technology.

What has Starkey done to position themselves as the AI world leader in the hearing aid industry?

Starkey Innovations Since 2009

Starkey has received multiple innovation awards since 2009, each of which kept them a step ahead of the competition in the race toward being a world leader in applying artificial intelligence to hearing aids.

In 2014, Starkey made a breakthrough with the release of their Halo model, which delivered seamless connectivity between hearing aids and iOS platforms, allowing for the streaming of phone calls, music, videos, and more directly into your ears.

Quad core twin compressor technology, a feature of Halo 2, Muse, and SoundLens Synergy models in 2016, furthered the capacity of Starkey hearing aids to deliver enhanced sound optimization and more precise speech.

Muse iQ (2017) built on these innovations, further enhancing speech clarity and producing more natural sound quality.

Machine learning and artificial intelligence added to these foundational innovations led to the release of Livio AI in 2018, which became the world’s first hearing aid to integrate motion sensors to track your activities while delivering superior noise reduction technology.

Livio Edge AI was a continuation of innovations accomplished by Livio Edge, further expanding the capacity of the world’s most advanced AI engine at 2.4 GHz. Starkey’s Edge Mode feature allowed for instant adjustment to your listening profile with a double tap to the device.

Evolv AI, introduced in 2021, included sensors capable of connecting and adapting to your lifestyle, while enhancing fall detection and various other ease-of-use features.

Starkey’s 2022 upgrade of Evolv AI brought Android users into the fold by accommodating Android operating systems.

The launch of Genesis AI in 2023 marked the beginning of a new era in the hearing technology industry by delivering an all-new processor, sound quality, design, fitting software, and overall listening experience.

What Starkey has accomplished in five years in AI innovations is the equivalent of decades of advancements in other industries.

Genesis AI Hearing Aids: Features and Benefits

The science behind what Genesis AI is working to accomplish involves an attempt to mimic how your brain processes sound in order to quickly and precisely “fill in” your hearing impairment gaps.

The Starkey Neuro Processor chip in Genesis AI uses algorithms that exceed the capabilities of any previous generation processor, providing…

  • Four times faster delivery of sound clarity

  • Five times more computational memory

  • Ten times more non-volatile memory

At these speeds, you would expect the processor to be an energy hog, but Genesis consumes 50 percent less battery power than the competition when providing equal computational processing.

  • Enhanced Sound Clarity: allows you to naturally distinguish words and speech, hear soft sounds without being overwhelmed by background noise, and hear with less effort, reducing fatigue

  • Improved Comfort: designed to fit the contours of your ears with greater wearing discretion

  • Ease of Use: all-day use from an overnight charge; built durable with eight points of protection and moisture protection

  • Connectivity Versatility: as pioneers in connectivity, Starkey continues to upgrade advancements that are already ahead of the competition

Features Integrated in Your Hearing Aids Using the My Starkey App:

  • Personal “tweaks” to improve your listening profile (including features for those with tinnitus and sound sensitivity challenges)

  • Optimized sound quality even in the most challenging listening environments using Edge Mode+

  • Personal health monitoring to help you meet health and wellness goals

  • Fall detection and alerts for great peace of mind for you and your loved ones

  • Calls, music, and more are streamed into both hearing aids for a more true-to-life binaural listening experience

Available Styles

The Genesis AI style choices include:

  • Receiver-in-canal (RIC)

  • Full-shell in-the-ear (ITE)

  • In-the-canal (ITC)

  • Completely-in-canal (CIC)

  • An invisible-in-canal (IIC) option that is the industry’s smallest hearing aid with connectivity features
